Artist’s Statement

Working with realistic subjects is my preference. Nature fills me with inspiration and I pour that into my art. While I continue to explore new materials and techniques, I find that each subject chooses a different medium with a unique facet of expression.

Growing up in the rural Northwest, I developed a deep appreciation of the outdoors and spent most of my time investigating forests, rivers and tide pools. At the age of five, my aunt declared that I was an artist – I believed her. I received the confirmation I needed to continue in the field after graduating Top Senior Artist from South Albany High School in 1980.

Throughout the years, I have explored various disciplines of the arts, beginning with drawing, then branching into painting in acrylic, oil, and watercolor. Later I learned how to work with leather, wood, metal and clay as well as airbrush, calligraphy, computer art and video production.

I am a member of the Columbia Arts Guild, the Oregon Potters Association and a Certified Oil Painting Instructor. In addition, I have displayed my work in galleries throughout the Northwest.
