July 13, 2007 Mokono
It has officially been a month since I have left home. I can’t decide if the time has been flying or crawling by. I think it has gone by quickly, but the amount of stuff that has happened in the past month makes it seem like I have been here forever. I have 6 more weeks to go, and I am really excited to continue working and see what else comes my way.
Last night I went to Ntenjeru with Lydia to go shopping. It was really nice because we don’t usually just get to talk or hang out. We just walked into the village and bought food and then went back but we talked the whole time. After that it was a pretty quiet night, although we had a feast complete with avocado and pineapple (ever since I started researching nutrition I’ve been really pushing for more fruits and veggies at the house and now my efforts are finally beginning to pay off!).
This morning I slept in until 9 (which was really exciting-it is the latest I’ve been able to sleep in since I got here). Festus, Lydia, and Julie all had things to do in Mokono and Kampala, so today was a designated day off. I met up with Erin around 11 and we came to Mokono to use the internet and to buy things (like coffee!! I used the very last of all the instant coffee in the house today, I had to ration it all week), and also to go over our lesson plan for our “life skills” seminar on Sunday for the kids at the white house dormitory (it is something that Erin started to do on Sundays to help teach the kids self-esteem, communication skills, and other “life skills”).
I’m pretty sure that it is going to be a pretty lazy and uneventful weekend, but I don’t mind at all. I think I am still trying to recover from the trauma I suffered on the island.
